How to Taste Your Wedding Cake Samples at Home: Tips for a Perfect Experience

Whether you’ve already secured your wedding date with me or you’re trying some flavours before deciding, receiving your cake sample box should feel like a little celebration in itself. It’s your very own taste test experience - no pressure, no rush, just delicious flavours to enjoy together, in your own time and space.
Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your sample box:
When & How to Order Your Samples My cake sample boxes are available four times a year and are posted straight to your door - ready to enjoy at home in your own time. Each box features a set menu of carefully chosen flavours that reflect the season and showcase a variety of sponges and fillings.
Here’s what you can expect throughout the year:
February: Rich Chocolate, Zesty Lemon, Salted Caramel, Vanilla, Raspberry & White Chocolate
May: Victoria Sponge, Biscoff, Black Forest, Passionfruit & Orange, Red Velvet
August: Vanilla, Zesty Lemon, Rich Chocolate, Carrot, Salted Caramel
November: Chocolate Orange, Victoria Sponge, Biscoff, Cherry Bakewell, Red Velvet
Make It Bespoke
If you’d prefer a bespoke box of cake samples, just get in touch with me. This is perfect if you’re: Planning a bridal brunch, Hosting a family get-together, Wanting to involve your bridal party or parents, Having a long-distance tasting with a friend on Zoom, Celebrating a special occasion (because cake doesn’t need a reason!)
With a bespoke box, you can choose your own flavours from my menu instead of the set seasonal menu, and I’ll package it beautifully for your occasion.
Take Your Time (But Not Too Much!)
Your samples are best enjoyed within 48 hours of delivery. You don’t need to eat them all in one go - feel free to spread your tasting over two days if you’d like. It’s a lovely way to make the moment last a little longer.
No Freezing or Chilling Needed
Your samples are freshly made and don’t need to be frozen or refrigerated. The exception? If it’s particularly warm and the slices seem a little soft, you can pop them in the fridge for up to an hour just to firm them up. Let them come back to room temperature before unwrapping and tasting, so you can enjoy them at their best.
Make It a Moment
Set the scene - light a candle, pour a drink, pop on some music, and enjoy the process. Whether it’s a relaxed Sunday afternoon with a cuppa or a little date night with bubbles, this is a lovely chance to pause and enjoy being together during the wedding planning whirlwind.
Pair with Your Favourite Drinks
A slice of cake pairs beautifully with tea or coffee… but if you fancy making it feel a little more special, a glass of bubbly is always a lovely touch.
Share the Flavours
Each slice has been carefully assembled so that you both get a full taste of sponge and fillings in every bite. You can easily cut each slice in half and enjoy the layers as they’re meant to be tasted, one piece each, no fighting over the best bit!
Take Notes
If you’re using this tasting to help decide on your wedding cake flavours, it can be helpful to jot down a few thoughts as you go. Which flavours did you both love? Was there anything that surprised you? Don’t worry if you have different favourites - I often include more than one flavour in your final cake design. You may want to consider what desserts and other sweet treats are on offer at your wedding. And... do you want to keep that top tier for yourselves? It is the perfect way to enjoy your favourite flavour just for yourselves.
